I am satisfied with the user-friendly nature of the book. Having previously used a writing handbook that lacked tabs to guide the students, I received a number of student requests for one that had them, as this one does. I also find the book's use of highlighted boxes to sum up and illuminate the content of its larger sections a help to students seeking fast help with specific topics. The table of contents for this book is clear and generally well organized. I particularly like the positioning of the opening sections, "Thinking, Reading and Writing Critically" and "The Writing Process" at the opening of the book; this is very helpful for first-year students, who are often anxious about writing basics and need accessible advice. The learning features of this chapter are excellent. Chapter objectives are clearly laid out in the opening overview of the writing process. The boxes summarizing sections are helpful, as are the sample papers. I find the writing style ... lucid, accessible and consistent, and have no criticisms. This book's major advantage over its competition is its up-to-date and lucid explanation of MLA format. I also find its outline of the basic writing process more helpful and effective than some others I have encountered. Roberta Barker, Dalhousie University The text is comprehensive as a reference for writers. The writing style and level is appropriate and clear. The revision and editing checklists are very useful tools for students. The proofreading advice is a useful inclusion. The computer tips are very relevant to students. The transitional words and expressions are very helpful, particularly for students struggling to create bridges within and between paragraphs. The beauty of this aptly named text is its utility:Quick Accessis an easy-to-navigate one-stop reference book, and the spiral binding and section tabs contribute significantly to its user-friendliness. The scope of the book is comprehensive, and the documentation sections are up to date. The inclusion of Canadian content engages Canadian readers, and the examples illuminate each concept presented. In addition, the Companion Web site appeals to the mouse-clicking generation and addresses the existence of multiple learning styles. Nancy Marenick and Instructors from the Writing Centre, St. Francis Xavier University [Quick Access] is a handy reference book to keep close by and easily refer to while writing. The writing style and level is very appropriate and well suited for our first year university students. The Canadian content is an important factor in this text's appeal to both instructors and students. I really like the online diagnostic feature that comes with the text. It's a good start for students to see what areas need improvement right away, so they can focus on strengthening these ares throughout the term. Monica Sturgess, Simon Fraser University One of the book's distinguishing features is its impressively wide range of subjects. I think the summary and checklist boxes are a wonderful study aid, providing quick access indeed to the most crucial information. The book is definitely up-to-date, in terms of both philosophy and pedagogy. The companion website is a tremendous resource. Marie Tienhooven, University of Ottawa
